A short video of me catching three “omilu” (two tiny, one decent sized). Omilu is also known as Bluefin Trevally and is known in Hawaii for being a strong fighter and good eating! I actually caught five omilu that day but only got three on video. I caught a nice 1 to 1.5lb omilu just before I shot this video. Kicking myself for not turning my GoPro on during that fight!
Location is Lanikai Beach in Kailua, Hawaii, on the east side of the island of Oahu.
Time of video is dawn, and the tide was low. I used “ika” (squid) for bait. I was trying for “o’io” (bonefish) or maybe even a “moi” (Pacific threadfin) but only omilu were biting that day.
The omilu were small but they gave a decent fight on light tackle and I have no complaints.
